Overview
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace offers health insurance plans for individuals and families who don't have access to affordable employer-based coverage. Many people qualify for premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions based on income.

What You Should Know
Essential Health Benefits
All ACA-compliant plans cover 10 essential health benefits: doctor visits, hospitalization, emergency services, maternity and newborn care, mental health and substance use services, prescription drugs, lab services, pediatric care, and preventive/wellness services.
Metal Tiers
Plans are categorized as Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. They differ by how you and the plan share costs — not by the quality of care. Bronze has the lowest monthly premium and highest out-of-pocket costs; Platinum is the reverse.
Financial Assistance
Premium tax credits lower your monthly premium, and cost-sharing reductions reduce your out-of-pocket costs (deductibles, copays). Cost-sharing reductions apply only to Silver plans for those who qualify.
